I and a fellow soldier were here in 1970 on a brief flight and afternoon picnic from my U.S. Army post at Long Binh. We saw a group of Viet Cong prisoners inland heading out to work in the fields, possibly clearing rocks for farming. The local police chief met us on his little motorcycle, and we distributed some magazines and candy to curious children. I remember this beautiful beach and the black rocks at the end of the beach with tidal pools in them. I also remember seeing the summer home of then Vietnam vice president nearby, and a crystal clear stream coming down from the mountain to the sea.
