Rexrider98's conversations

Thanks, ccrowelliv. I haven't been there in 10 years now myself. Every so often I scroll through these photos and wonder if I'll ever be back there. What a priviledge to have even been there once, though.

I got up in the middle of the night once while staying in this cabin, to visit nature so to speak from just off the front porch. The beam of my headlamp caught two pairs of very bright, very wide-set eyes staring at me from the trees in the right of this picture. We'd been hearing a lot of wolves howling in the evenings and night at this location. No doubt in my mind 2 wolves were watching me from 75' away. I quickly finished my business and got back into the cabin.

This is one of the most stunning, out of the way places I've ever been to. Just off a USFS campground. Been there twice now, and if I'm within 500 miles I will go there again just to be there. Both times I've been there, the campground was completely empty. Just the sound of the wind in the trees.

Very long delay in responding. Many decades ago I spent a few years working backcountry forestry crew for USNPS in S District Yellowstone NP, which included upper Snake, Big Game Ridge, Heart Lake, etc. Worked in Jackson during the winter, and was fortunate to have access to Harebell Cabin during the winter. Skied in several times and spent some magical days/nights out there. I understand exactly what you mean when you mention the "knowledge that truly there was no one else around." In those years all of my backcountry was in the Park, and I dreamed of exploring Teton Wilderness, just S of the boundary line one day. It took 30 years to do that but was fortunate again, much older, to spend parts of 3 summers doing just that. In the summer though, not winter like your trek. Still dream about the winter beauty of that backcountry. Again thanks for posting your pics.

I've gone a little later. The beginning of September, partially to avoid the bugs, and I am considering the idea of arriving mid to late August this year, so I appreciate the information!

Glad you enjoyed it! While there, we had no access to the cabin but the outhouse, just outside of this picture to the left, seemed quite the luxury at the time.

Wonderful to see these falls again. Passed by here 9 years ago. Just discovered your pics. Wonderful, thanks so much. Rexrider98

I notice that 2 Ocea Creek is North & South it its plunge from the 2 Ocean Platue, & the distributaries start out Noth & South. I can't see the streams from overhead because of the vegitation that always roughly highlights a stream's presence, but it looks like they start out North & South, & Yellowstone Lake & River appear to be West of the split. Guess divides aren't necessarily straight lines.

zxz13, there are only 2 ways to get there, hike or horseback. Either way, it's 26 miles or so from the nearest trail head.

Saw two grizzly cubs run across the trail not far from here; didn't linger to see if Mom was close by. No doubt she was, but we never saw her.
