Hello,

My name is Laura Mam and I am currently working for a non-profit organization called Global Heritage Fund. We help to save endangered world heritage sites in developing countries. This is a great photo.

I absolutely love your picture and wanted to find out if I could get your permission to use it on a new website I am helping to build. I am looking to highlight the need for proper conservation practices at this site. Please let me know what you think and keep taking the great photos! Should you like to learn more about us and our cause, please visit our current website: http://www.globalheritagefund.org. Hope to hear from you soon!

Regards,

Laura Mam Global Heritage Fund

The bloke who took this photo was lost. (Taubada dikana dekanai). It's certainly is Hanuabada and Gabi (Papuan) Villages. The Koki Point Villages (chiefly Wanigela people) are on the other side of Mount Lawes, that is, the big hill on the horizon to the left of the picture. Hanuabada people are NOT squatters, they've lived here for eternity, since before Captain Moresby arrived and put his name on it and the London Missionary Society began re-writing their history for them.. Before plastic shopping bags arrived, It was pristine.

I've visited here many times as chief of the community police.

And its sensible to live over the water in Port Moresby Harbour. There has never been a Tsunami, the tides and winds are known by the people and the front of Port Moresby Harbour is protected by a massive coral barrier reef with a narrow entrance. A tsunami could not happen here.

In 2006 October there were still five of em. But one was tilting rather dangerously. U know the history?

There were 26 of them till 1888, when most of them were destroyed by the British who felt that they would be used by the Russians!!!!! The German traveller and historian Niedermeyr was the last to have photographed all of them.
