All these photos of the River Tame and Reddish vale bring back many happy memories from over 60 years ago. Spent many hours down by the river, accessing the valley from South Reddish, even been known to walk across the top of the weir aged about fifteen or sixteen c. 1950-1951. Ther is a 3ft wide ledge behind the lip of the weir.
The weir was built to provide a ddep pool or "leet" to feed a canal which provided water to the mills in Portwood beyond the bottom of what is now Teviot WayLeft the area in 1959 rarely been back since.

What a great photo, just as I remember it. Not in that condition now.
Good pic. Brings back memories from the 1960's.
Stockport Council used to spend money making the town centre attractive; times have changed, sadly.
There was an underground section of canal here until 2014
