The 3rd character '通' implies also: connecting, joining, communicating. The last character '樑'(or 梁) used here is 'beam' alright, as the construction beam used in house building. 通樑(pronounced 'tong liang')was given to a small village in PengHu, for people there some hundred years ago built their houses using beams that were shipped from FuJian, China; where they were originated from. In memory of that, village people started calling their village 通樑.
