Environmentalist/Sociologist/Activist, my photography focuses on using nature and history to stimulate thinking about the relationship between environment and cultural identity. Most of the photos that I post are part of larger stories and that are provided in more detail on my Ipernity page (see website). I spend much of my travel time camping and exploring in the rural U.S. West, and thus most of my pictures are from those trips.

A viewer had noted that the location on this was incorrect. This was taken 15 minutes east of Gaviota which, at a speed of around 60mph, would put it at approximately Naples Point State Marine. I had labeled the structure below the tracks as a bike path, which may be incorrect.

... those hulking big railcars sit dwarfed by seemingly limitless expanse of desert and mountains ...

I posted some pictures yesterday and apparently someone's working since they were faster at putting them on Google Earth than they were in the past! It's going to take me awhile to figure out what pictures to add to fill in the past 2 years, but should see more of mine. BTW, liked your pictures that I've seen so far.

Interesting train, looks like a fun trip.

... years later, Adam is still right: very cool ...

... like contestants waiting for the starting gun ...

... "railfans" everywhere would be drooling over a chance to get a shot like this ...

... marked as a Favorite, just 'cause ...

... maybe because I'm also a pushover for one-off ephemeral shots ...

... grew up in a railroad town (B&O and Western Maryland RR), and this scene is heart-rending ... these old Geeps were the backbone of US freight haulers for so many years ...

... true Americana ...

Glad it helped. I discovered it by accident, I had no idea there was a series of those out there.

it's called Broadbent Park.
