Standfred's conversations

A village stood there before the 11th century. Around 1060, Hubert RAGOT, lord of le Lude, gave the church to the monks of St Nicolas d’Angers with the land to establish a cloister and a borough there we can notice the privileges he gave then to ensure their subsistence. They were allowed to fish with a “senne” (long straight net) and “au combre” (barrage for fishing) at St Sulpice where a chapel still stands nowadays On the village, old houses attest the prosperity that the village renew the harbour was busy, it served the mill, the lime furnaces, the small local industries and the building firms. Nowadays you can see fishing boats and yachts there it is very easy to reach the bands of the river Sarthe there and have pleasant walks. Courageous walkers will cross the bridge and the lock and they will be able to reach VERIGNE using the old path of haulage that followed the watermen. It the best place to discover the village the twisted steeple and the beautiful houses facing the river. By the riverside, feasts take place every year: on the 13th of July there is the great party of the sardine, with folk groups, a firework and a ball all night.
