Nice to see this! When I visited from Canada in the 80s (!) it was shrouded with tarpaulins and full of worlkmen dressed for the arctic - in May! There was low cloud, a cold, howling wind, and nowhere to go other than a quick jog to the summit cairn; then it was a fast trip back to the tram. I've since wondered if it might have become a nice place for a spot of refreshment on a sunny day.

This sculpture is not in Point Grey but on the north side of Stanley Park. You have it misplaced by several miles

Boy, I was I kid then, Bad, and I'd be flirting with false memory syndrome if I stated anything as a fact. I actually remember waiting in front of the north entrance for construction crews do something in the night, but can't say how the road went previously, nor how we got around the construction if it disrupted the original road. If I come across any info I'll let you know.

Actually, this is the Thompson Canyon. The Fraser was left behind way down the road at Lytton.

This Alexandra Bridge was completed in 1926, but from information I came across, did not open until May 1927. This sits on the original 1863 abutments. There is an original section of the Cariboo "Wagon" Road to the left of the background tower. The Trans-Canada Highway Alexandra Bridge was built between 1959 and 1962, but did not open to traffic until 1964.

Enjoyed your series on the old road! As a child, taking my first ride north, much of this was the highway, right on top of the Engineers' Road! I only wish I had the memory (or photos) of what it was like, but I seem to recall that in some places, it was pretty scary. Yet, highway trucks used this, the only practical route. History from my own time...

The locator on the map is correct. I suppose the title of the picture should say 'View from Top of Smaller Peak on Sumas Mt'. This is part Sumas Mt, the peak is further northeast, just above where Hwy#1 goes over the Vedder River.
