This is a historic bridge once known as the "Floating Bridge". Before the present Bailey bridge was installed, the span was much wider and an actual floating bridge crossed the span. It was made of logs and planks and sat right at water level. The road was called the Ashley road at that time because the was a gold mine by that name several miles beyond the bridge.
