My dad was temporarily assigned to the 79th Infantry Division after the 11th Armored Division was disbanded in 1945 after WW-2 ended. He has a photo (circa 1945) that appears to have been taken a little further downhill on this "Burgweg" path. The church on the other side of the river appears to be in the correct place. Dad's photo shows a high roof with steep pitch and a what appears to be one central chimney. Hard to tell with the trees in this photo, but it might be the one directly above the two people further down this path. Dad's photo shows a small spire on the building to the right of that building. I have several photos of Bayreuth from this timeframe. Dad was assigned to guard duty with the 79th for D.P. (Displaced Persons). His notes show the tower at the top of this hill, then the D.P. HQ in the (yellow?) building to the right, and then "Our house", where the men were apparently stationed. Dad also had two small photos of "My friends from D.P. Camp: Dadoush and Gernick Eowgenis" (Not sure of the spelling of their names.
Interessant! Kannte ich noch gar nicht. ist ja auch ein wenig versteckt und als Silwinger kann man es ja nicht unbedingt wissen.
Kann dort Jeder hin?
