John Lincoln's conversations

Nedbank built about 1906 as the Nederlandse Bank. Has been described as the cutest little bank in the country.

Dedicated in 1921 to the 41 men from the district who lost thier lives during the First World War.

When the Second World War started the army took over the Hospital which is now over 100 years old. This is a monument dedicated to the South African Army Corp.

This magnificent stone building was built in 1912 for the workers of the nearby diamond mine. It was the centre for all of the villages entertainment. In the early days, silent movies were shown in the main hall with a Miss McLeod on the piano. On the walls of this same hall are massive 3 metre by 2 metre murals painted about 1942 by Italians POWs interred at the nearby Zonderwater POW camp. These were covered over in 1947 and have recently been "rediscovered" and renovated. There are 8 in all, 3 of Afrikaans paintings, one of Westminster, one of the Union Buildings in Pretoria, another of Tower bridge in London and finally a water scene and a sailing ship.

This course was opened in 1903. To the right the headgear of Cullinan Diamond mine is visible.

There are many Jacaranda lined streets in the village of Cullinan. They are normally in bloom during October

This is a view of the "big hole" from the viewpoint inside the mine. The big hole is 1000 metres long 500 wide and about 450 metres deep. The pipe is 4 times bigger than Kimberleys and the actual area size is twice as big. (Kimberley has sides that have caved in)

Cullinan Diamond Mines headgear. Erected in 1945 when the mine went underground. Mining is now at the 763 metre level.

Historic miners cottages built about 1905. Lined with 100 year old Oak Trees and Jacaranda Trees.

Graveyard of the Italain POWs who died at the internment camp at Zonderwater during the Second World War
