A tree alongside the Roman Wall in Northumberland doth grow

Against the rocky escarpment near, where lots of water will flow

to succour trees roots while they twine and grip

lest howling ferocious wind should rip

this hardy specimen of natures life from the poor earth and cast afar, the tree that dares to survive out here,

in ancient historical Northumberland.

That's Queens road. On the right was the Gaety? cinema. In 1945/6? the Queen... Then Princess Elizabeth.. visited. Old type car with running board. I ran forward and jumped onto the running board and held out my hand. She grinned and shook it. A policeman grabbed me as I jumped off the slow moving car and clipped me round the ear. "little sod". I was 12 or 13.
