I am enjoying photographing both the outside AND inside of churches - especially the inside, because of the many technical problems involved. It's a steep, but enjoyable learning curve.
My favourite church photo is probably that of the interior of Aldbrough (where my father was organist for over 50 years!)
Photoshop is an excellent tool. In this photo I purposely exaggerated the saturation to achieve a sureal effect (I think I may have even used one of the artistic filters).
One piece of advice I wouyld give is to use Photoshop sympathetically. It is all too easy to produce a 'WOW' picture which has 'PHOTOSHOPPED' stamped all over it.

If a church isn't open, there is usually a note in the porch telling you either when it will be open or where a key can be obtained.
