The only poisonous snake species in Norway, not lethal to humans. Will only attack if it doesn't have time to flee or hide. I caught this one by surprise, and on the beach it could only find partial cover under the rock, giving me a couple of minutes to get some shots while it slowly reversed. The species is protected.

The ruins of an experimental wave power plant, which was wiped out by a hurricane after a few years of operation. The picture shows a funnel that would concentrate waves and lead them up into a collector dam. Although the funnel was damaged, it still sends waves splashing into where the dam used to be.

This was one of many herring oil factories in this region. As herring catches dwindled from the late fifties onwards, the factories went out of business, one by one. By the late seventies, none were left.

This contraption sits beside an old dry dock. It consists of a platform, a tiny cabin and a few gas bottles. What purpose it once served, I do not know.

A copy of an old milk ramp, made by carpenter students at a nearby school. A few decades ago, milk ramps could be found everywhere along the roads. Today, milk is collected by tanker trucks, and the ramps are gone.

Foundation stones from two viking era boat houses can be seen if you walk about 150 m past the fishermen's memorial. 1100 years ago they would have been right by the shore, but today the shoreline is about 100 m away.
