Ehrm..I think you're right about that. I wonder what the position of Google in Panoramio exactly is, because we never seem to notice their influence. It looks like nothing has changed last two years and functionality is still very much level 2007. I assume the Panoramio guys want to keep their project deliberately low profile, and they clearly don't want to become a second Flickr. See e.g. the discussions in the user forums about developing new functionality, like e.g. iPhoto upload plugins, sorting and album functionality and so on. That's OK, but you're right about the hardware story. Those problems should be solved anyhow.
Besides all this, it's good to keep in mind that Panoramio was developed as a means for showing interesting 'real world' geotagged content that would give people a chance to see how the world looks outside and NOT as a photo sharing platform, what it has become more and more last two years.
Cheers, Erik

Thanks, archrodney! I'm glad you like it. This is my own rhododendron, but in the area where I lived there were many of them, at the many estates and mansions in the region. At Warmelo castle in Diepenheim, there even is a special rhododendron garden. Worth a visit when you are in Holland;-)
Cheers! Erik

Thank you May! I hope you enjoyed the lovely, bright colors. While taken in 'dwarf's perspective', the Rhododendron looks indeed huge. Actually it's a rather small plant, which happily has moved with us to our new home!
Bet wishes to you!! Erik

Lovely picture, May! For those of us who are familiar with the bible, (and I think you are, May) or at least grew up with it, the rainbow was first mentioned in Genesis 9:13 as a sign of God, stating his covenant with earth. Let's stay in heaven's spheres for a while...
Greetings, Erik

Thanks a lot for your lovely comment, Erik! Well, I think comparing my photo to Cartier-Bresson's is a bit of an exaggeration. :) But I'm still very glad you like it and noticed such details. What I like here is the move of the small kid near the frozen fella. :) cheers, archrodney!
