Inocencio Bertoli Ca…'s conversations

Long after this building was a hotel, the bottom floor became a large home with nice gardens in back, where my grandparents lived. The second floor was accessible through a large staircase but it was closed and abandoned. It must had collapsed at some point after my family no longer lived there. I now understand the unusual distribution of the home and why the living room was so huge, it must had been the original hotel lobby. It was the home where my grandmother died. I've thought of visiting the town where I was born and had a most enjoyable childhood, but friends who have done so tell me it'd be best to keep those beautiful memories, rather than seeing my town as if it had been bombed during WW II. A shame, its architecture was incredible and very unique for a small happy town. It bothers me when I hear some Cubans and read articles referring to it as a "fishing village", it is far from what those words imply. An educated party-village, in pre-Castro days, would be a much better description. Even the place where "mi abuela" passed and then had her 24-hour viewing, the standard back then, became a party place when it was in ruins.
