Fantastic secluded beach, where you will find Martha and Gabriel's kiosk with freshly prepared food and cold beer always in the fridge. Highly recommended.
Wow! The deformation you can see here and at other points along this coastline is mindblowing - Welcombe Mouth is stunning too. I found a couple of nodules in one of the slates at Hartland Quay which I'm trying to find the best way of splitting to see if they hold any fossil material.
No 1 The Path was a cottage previously owned by my late father The Revd Peter Longridge, who bought it for £1200 in the early 1960's. On my mother's death the cottage passed on to me, Richard Longridge, and was subsequently resold. On the ground floor there is a small study on the right, and a small living room on the left, and straight ahead a small kitchen and a tiny yard beyond, with an outside WC and lumber room. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, and a WC in the bathroom. My late parents used the cottage as a bolt-hole when my Dad was a vicar in Newton Abbot, and after he retired they stayed there for the rest of their lives. I took over in 1995 on the death of my mother, and I used to let it out before selling it finally. I have very fond memories of this part of Appledore, especially the estuary views and of the Royal George pub. Richard.longridge@wanadoo.fr
This is the view from the National Trust car park on top of the ridge overlooking Ivinghoe Beacon. The Beacon is towards the left, with the white line of the Ridgeway path approaching it. Whipsnade Zoo is right of centre on top of the ridge on the far side of the valley, marked by a white lion symbol cut into the hillside. The picture should be viewed at full size to see this.
