Water starts as a small amount, building up as it goes down the valley, turning into a flash flood, which can kill, and washes away all the topsoil.

There is no road for a good distance. Even a 4-wheel drive would have difficulty in winter.

This is the site where the buildings and a demonstration permaculture plot will be.

Built by Lady Carberry in 1825 to teach local girls the skills of crochet lace and needlework, and to provide employment. Restored by Rathbarry Tidy Towns Committee in 2000

This is the farm we stayed at on our first trip for the project to bring internet access to Igourdane in the Atlas Mountains.

After the harvest comes the long wait for next spring. There will be no more rain here until November.

In the dry season most wells dry up. This can be the only source for 10 km or more.

This is March, end of the rainy season. The crop is the only one of the year.
