This house was built by my father, Dr R.D. Laurie, starting with the wooden boxes that Ford imported their cars in in the 1920's. He was a retired doctor who loved building, so just kept on building and building. I was born in the bedroom at top RHS of the house in 1942. We had to leave in 1948 because the land was leased from the Lovemore's on a 99-year lease, and upkeep for the place was starting to cost. The upstairs toilet was in the 'castle' at top left - a terrific view from the throne. (Eventually, including the cottages adjacent to the main house there were 7 flush toilets!) Our water (a bit brackish) came from a stream off pic to the right. The beach came to be known as Lauries Bay. I'm still around as at Nov 2015, contact number 082 454 8934 if anyone would like more info. Regards, Doug Laurie

Please Rememeber that google earth wants you to put your placemark WHERE the Photo was taken - NOT what you've taken the photo OF !I'll just have to find a higher Perch somewhere Joe ...!
We used to walk along the cliffs from Herolds Bay 50 plus years ago. By the way there are no fish, the old timers like Tommy Giles and Ossie Urban RIP caught them all. There's a photo of Tommy and a big stompkop at the Oubaai Hyatt.
Tidals was at the point in NOssel Bay ~ Unfortunately this location has been for years not Tidals - Tidals - the vibe is relocating to Hartenbos - Opening Season 2010... www.mosselbaydining.co.za
