The building was constructed in 1870-72 as a market hall but was always known as the Town Hall.In the 1950's it became the Egerton Boy's Club and then a furniture store when the Club moved to new premises on Mereheath Lane in the 1970's. The Post Office was located at the top end of the bottom street (King St.)but moved to the Town Hall temporarily prior to moving to it's current location in the Co-op.
