Very nice picture, Michael. I was looking at Preston from the northeast, the Red Buttes area, and wondering about hiking there. What's it like? Any thoughts on trails, routes, etc?
Is there any way to get to this site without rafting to it? My wife and I tried to get there from Garberville last week and were turned away by deteriorating roads and no trespassing signs. I would love to see this section of the river--any suggestions for access would be appreciated.
A relic grave from a bygone era, the headstone is made from wood and most of the text has long faded. This headstone, probably dating to the late 1800's, is but one of many celebrating difficult lives in the desert from many decades. The region has long been visited because of the hot water that flows at the surface here.
Sweet- I got lost in those pictures. I'm off in early June for a trans-Klamath adventure...and I'll use part of that high route to get from Grizzly to Caribou.
As an avid plant explorer, my website, artwork -- and soon my book -- are available for hikers and backpackers to celebrate the botanical wonderland that is northwest California. Please enjoy the photos and visit the website for more information about conifer diversity in northwest California.
