Under the mountain of Galičica there are numerous springs, some of them being strong and karst, such as the springs called Island “Ostrovo” near St. Naum Monastery (IX century). They are forming the river Black Drim “Crn Drim” which flows into the lake. The Lake Ohrid flows out near Struga and forms again the river of Black Drim. The water in Lake Ohrid is characterized with great clarity and transparence and is considered to be one of the most transparent lakes in Europe and the world*.
The springs called Island “Ostrovo” are located on the southeast side of Lake Ohrid, 28 km from Ohrid, next to the St. Naum Monastery (IX century) in the immediate vicinity of the Macedonian border with Albania.
