Sorry for my english: I am swiss-italian. Anyway, I have seen the movie and read the book. There are no words, maybe. Thanks for this imagine, I can't wipe away from my mind this deep human history and tragedy.

I took the trail before and after the release of the movie to the teklanika river. There were some campsites and a parking lot molded into the landscape at the start of the ATV trail that were not there previously. I also met some kids who wanted to go so bad, they swam across the Tek. That's a gamble with your life. It's still very isolated, I ran into no one until I walked past the ATV camp. But there also were a sow and 2 cubs hanging out at the savage river crossing site who were not afraid of humans, so who knows how many interactions they've had with people.

Magic bus is on the Sushana river I believe. This is the Savage river running high; it was up to my waist at the deepest part, if you were alone, the current would wash you away. The braid on the left normally isn't much more than a trickle. This is about mile 5, the Teklanika is about mile 7, and then the bus is another 8 miles. From talking to people who have gotten across the teklanika, the trail is pretty tough to navigate, the ATV trail tour companies don't flat it pretty.

They both have their charm, but I prefer Denali just because I love being able to hike any direction without trails. In the Kenai, the woods are too thick and it's slow-going unless you are on a trail.

A true landmark, unfortunately it has lost much of its vast wilderness as in the past year has become a frequent tourist destination and increasing incidents of vandalism (almost all the windows have been demolished), before the media spread it was an edge of isolation and serenity but now has become quite the tale to the onlooker, people can not just watch the movie and know all about Chris, its the many readings that reveal the real hero.
