All that remains of the Great Exhibition of 1951! Joseph Paxton's Crystal Palace, that was erected in Hyde Park for that event, was afterwards dismantled and re-erected here in Penge in 1854. The structure was however totally destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1936, and only a few plaster prehistoric monsters that surrounded it remain.
To Google. I don't know if you care, but the village is Downe (with an "E"); Darwin's House is Down (without an "E") House. There are several entries making this wee mistake!
