Joel This is a climb I would repeat and the invitation is always open.
This photo is a reduced size of a huge stitched photo. It is taken from the summit of Dip Top Peak . The view south shows Mt Danial on the left, and Mt Hinman on the right. I thought the tarns on Mt Hinman were fascinating and visited them 10 days later.
I started early in the day and made it to Peggy’s Pond , climbed over Mt Danial Carefully made it around the Lake that had a drifting iceberg. The iceberg when I first saw it was near the outlet and moved half way across the lake during the afternoon. Dip Top Peak was a nice climb that had a great deal of exposure near the top and the views were better than I had imagined.
Next, my goal was to drop down to Jade lake and then pick up a trail back home. My first views of Jade Lake were impressive. I was here once as a Boy Scout, when I was 12 years old. From Jade Lake I found a climbers path that eventually made its way back to Marmot Lake where I accessed the trail system.
It was a very nice trip during perfect weather. The only trouble for this trip was setting off a dump truck sized rock slide. I was on a high angle talus slope and I could tell it was unstable. I carefully made all but the last move and everything I was standing on started off the mountain into the lake. After a couple quick lateral steps and one 360 spin I found myself just on a slight arête that was stable. I got pelted a few times by rocks coming off from above because the hillside will erode away upwards. After regaining my composure, I was able to capture the last 15 seconds of the rock slide with my camera. I plan to post it sometime soon.
