Finally got some more pictures uploaded of our adventures in UK just before we head back across the pond. Great times, great beers, great food especially some great friends!! Thanks Margaret & Peter!
Wonderful place to call home for a few days. Excellent food! They say Mark Twain wrote about the Heidelburg Castle here. We have had a fun time exploring Heldelburg's old town! Eating wonderful food and brews. Even attended the Easter service in German. Then went up the hill to explore the castle and took the tram to the top and walked back down the mountain via the short cut straight down the stone steps... about 1000 plus steps.
Today we had a full day in Salzburg! We arrived early by train and planned a "The Sound of Music" tour for the afternoon. Then we went to old town Salzburg and walk around. The many old churches of the original town of Salzburg, markets, horse drawn carriages and shops really took you back to the time of Mozart. For the evening we went to a dinner concert of Mozart (preformed in period dress).
After the concert we headed home to Sankt Johann. The train stopped in Bischofshofen (10 km from home) Two girls came up to us and said that this was the last stop! Two stops short of "home" !! OOPS. We couldn't read the fineprint footnote (in German) saying that the last train to Sankt Johann was at 22:35! Not the 23:35 we were on. Thanks to a patient taxi driver (who spoke no english) we managed to communicate the directions and get home. What a trip!
Easy day today ... just strolling around our new home town of St. Johann im Pongua. The warmest day we have had so far. Great looking at all the snowcapped mountains (note ... Real Mountains!) Missing Montana. Reminds us of Missoula except people talk funny. Must go check out the spring skiing up on the slopes tomorrow! But first a soak in the hot tub and then some brew.
Yep, having fun. It is just very pricey here in Austria. AND they don't take VISA!! That is too weird. We have to go to the bank Monday and hopefully they will get some euros? Everyone wants cash! At least we can charge our meal to our room for now, so we won't starve ;) AND on top of that, they don't have FREE internet. Even wanted a 20 euro deposit (cash) for the modem to have internet in our room. So limited pictures will go up on this site this week but I am still taking plenty of pics~
Arrived Safely and with some sleep... to Venezia! We shopped at a local market for some meat, cheese, bread and wine! Very expensive in the tourist areas but once you wonder off as we usually do. The local people and shops are wonderful! Our favorite part of Venezia! Getting lost. Good thing we are on an island! Hugs to all!
We had the most amazing day today. We took the shuttle to the train station. Transfered to the RER to Paris. Got off at the Arc De Trompe. After watching the traffic go crazy around it! We took the typical pictures. Then headed off to the Eiffel Tower. Along the way we decided we should get something to eat before any more tourist stuff. Well, we have told Margaret & Peter we really get into the "local" things more than the "tourist" stuff. We found the most amazing bistro. We stepped inside and it was PACKED... very small and packed. BUT "je vois deux petits tableaux" side by side just for us! I ordered the "duck" and Larry the sausage... our "serveur" warned us that it was very "fort" . (What the heck we are in Paris and we have tried Boudin in Louisiana.) Both were wonderful~ and of course we had wine. Lunch hour is two hours here and the locals were just leaving and the restaurant closes. One saw me with the camera and asked to take our picture. Then before we new it the how crew joined us. Then we order desert and because everyone else had left they served their own dishes and sat down beside us for their lunch! Cool We had a fascinating visit. Al bet, a little broken english and french. Then they gave us a complementary after meal digestive wine. Del Polo... ever heard of it. Nice smooth apple liqueur. Oh yeah! then we went to see the Eiffle Tower!
Forgot to mention, on the way up from Bradford on Avon, we stopped at Leeds Castle. First of many Castles we will see, I am sure! Very interesting! Even got into a enlightening conversation with the curator about the linage of the King & Queens. Arriving at our home for the next two nights, The Three Tuns Pub & BB, we relaxed with some brews.
First day in BOA we went down tothe locks on Avon and watched a narrow boat to thru a lock. Then we went by Granny Mo's for tea and scones. Went to see the Tithe Barn and had local Ice Cream. Great way to start out our stay in the UK!
Just arrived in Heathrow, Lundon, UK! Naturally I walked around to get in the car on the right side and all I saw was a STEERING wheel!!! I'm not driving on the wrong side of the road.
