This is a lovely little building which we stayed in during July 2015. We were a group of 4 people and it was supposed to be a hosted bed and breakfast. However the hostess buggered off the day we arrived, saying that she had provisioned the place and we could help ourselves. (not quite what we had planned). WE had of course pre-paid our several days stay. After she left we discovered that much of the very limited amount of food was old, stale and the fridge it was all kept in was quite dirty. As we searched around to see if there was more food anywhere, we discovered first mouse droppings everywhere, and I do mean everywhere, then we started to discover a large number of mouse traps hiding everywhere, some complete with mouse. It was obvious that they were aware of the state of the place. Frankly it was disgusting. I tried to communicate with the hostess later, in writing. We requested some form of consideration in the form of a refund, but received no reply whatsoever. I'd really like this message to stay here, just in case, and hoping that someone else may find it before they confirm a booking in this awful place
This sign is a landmark of itself, a feature of the landscape. The building, a long time ago, was a public house but has since and before been used for many purposes, for centuries. The corner it sits on, on Steep Hill, has been known as "the Harlequin". The building itself is a "cute" old building, but what is seen is the sign. You just have to be there and know the place....and clearly these guys haven't...and don't!
