Mark Purcell's conversations
This is the South entrance to the hotel. This door lead into the hallway with the bar on the left and the hotel barber shop on the right. Dick Walbalda was the barber you could take a bath along with your hair cut if so desired. I live there for eleven years. My Grandmother was the desk clerk and my stepfather was the bartender and was know as Jimmy the bartender. As kids we would use the fire escape ladder to swing on like a trapeze and play football under the Florence Hotel sign that lighted the grassy area under the bird house. Left at seventeen to enter the service but what a place and time to grow up.
