Thanks ArtnScience, but I am a sucker for anything that resembles an art museum (lol). I could not let them box up everything before I would see it, so I made the trip a few years ago with my wife and we had a ball.
I certainly could not miss this and although I do not like the idea of overturning Dr. Barnes' will, I think it will be a delight to art lovers to be able to visit a collection of this magnitude. I look forward to seeing it in Philadelphia. It will not only be a cultural triumph for Philadelphia, but a triumph for all art lovers. I can't wait to see it again. My wife and I do that occasionally, seeking out all the hidden gems in the tri-state area.
My next target is the Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. Twice, I have already gone to the Sterline & Francine Clack Institute in Williamstown MA. I also have a few more that I intend to visit.
The location seen on the map can also be seen through the window which represents the face of Dominique Kubuli. A larger version of this painting can be seen on my website at: http://www.davidgwilson.com/Dominique.html/ This will show you the view through a window looking out onto Portsmouth harbor towards the Cabrits. You shall see the yachts moored in the harbor which is reflected in her face.
Hiya Hanz thanks for the compliment as regards the angles, well it is a difficult one ~ I did try tilting it this way and that but it seemed best to my eye as it is. You'll notice that everything else in the shot is at an angle too and the tree on the left for example leans too far to the right if you tilt right ~ a real headache this one!!
Do you want to have some fun? If yes, then lick to enlarge the image and then look for the following images. 1) gondola and three other boats; 2)kitten; 3) dog's head; 4)hand of bananas; 5)basket with grapes, loaf of bread and pear; 6)snake; 7)fish eating snake; 8) two dead popes ( St Peter and Gregory the great; 9)Broken bridge; 10)black baby.
Now, have fun. (lol)
The strategic and plausible juxtaposition of commonplace objects (mnemonic images)creates an illusion of an alternative reality that gives the viewer a visual experience of images existing in a parallel universe while still firmly grounded in our three dimensional terrestrial space.
The Rokeby Venus at the National Gallery in London has always been a symbol of erotic desires, but never has her appeal been so palatable. Her handmaid is no longer the winged Cupid, but the subjugated African trying indefatigably to present to the world the beauty and culture of his land. Unfortunately, he has to employ an European middleman, Picasso, since the aesthetic value of African art and culture was never appreciated until Picasso acknowledged a debt to African art.
