This is a night scene of my hometown of Portsmouth, which smiles like the Mona Lisa at night. She is reminiscent of the folktales about "Lougawu" that I enjoyed listening to under the moonlight.

One may wonder why these images recur so frequently in my paintings. Well, I first saw the image of Marcus Garvey at the shop of Mr. Isiah John at the corner of Bay and Hillsborough Streets, two properties apart. I lived and grew up at 70 Hillsborough St, Portsmouth for seventeen (17) of my formative years. I ashamedly did not find out who Marcus Garvey was until I moved to New York City in the last semester of my college career at York College, C.U.N.Y. The combination is now self-explanatory why I have placed both images in a parallel universe.

This painting is in the collection of the Dominica Museum, Bay front , Roseau, Dominica. It reflects the scenic crepuscular delights that I memorized in Portsmouth as I was growing up there.

This is the church at which I made my first communionin 1961 and confirmation in May 1965. In this same church, I was first introduced to art. I was wont to spend the entire mass looking at the fourteen paintings that represent the Way of the Cross. David G. Wilson
