Brought up in Wallasey. Once described to me as the "Rock Center of the UK". I travel around quite a bit as part of my work. I carry a laptop and sometimes an overnight bag so I do not have room to carry an SLR, associated kit, tripod. Instead I make do with a digital compact that I can slip into a pocket. The downside is that the images are not as good as they could be and so I apologise in advance.

No, it is the toll that applied for the market days - i.e. in effect a local sales tax. There would probably have been a toll gate of some kind at this location.

It was a former Council property (County Hall?). They were just completing the renovation work when the photo was taken. I am not sure if it is still owned by the Council nor what it is used for now.
