Jozef Bonk (b. 24.7.1949 Horka, d. 21.8.1968 Poprad)
Slovak nationality. By profession machine locksmith at Piloimpregno. On August 21, 1968, Soviet tanks drove through the city of Poprad in the direction of Svit. After 11:00 am, about 600 citizens obstructed traffic in the square and threw various objects at the military convoy. The crowd ignited several auxiliary fuel tanks. The soldiers let fire, during which Bonk was hit in the stomach. He succumbed to his wounds on the spot. He is buried at the cemetery in Horka. A memorial plaque was placed in the square in Poprad, but removed during normalization. Today there is a memorial plaque in the square dedicated to all victims of the occupation of Czechoslovakia.
