Nice pic of you in the tank! I was in there twice, the 2nd time alone. If you go in there alone, it is the creepiest, spine tingling, echoing... well, you know...

What was it used for? Well, it was never actually used. During the depression (circa 1930s) the Government began work camps (in this case, the CCC.) to give many of the unemployed a source of income. They were building childrens camps around Pine Meadow Lake. If you walk around the lake, you will follow pipes, leading to various ruins. The septic tank was gravity fed, & was supposed to collect the excrement from these camps. I am not sure why they never finished, but it might have been due to WWII.

Hi Dave,

two "r"s in garry.

i know cairns usually indicate a sidetrail, but this guy must have had way too much time on his hands!

excellent picture, please note that this is an Iron Mine, specifically the "Bradley Mine". see ironminers.com for more pics.

Around 1900, a man named Conklin who was traveling toward johnstown was robbed and murdered. His body was hidden in Emmet's Cave. Many years later, a local farmer named Schoonover, who lay dying in the hospital, confessed to the murder. (Source: Harriman Trails, a guide and history. By William J. Myles)

This rock formation known as Emmets Cave is now located under the Baker Camp's tennis court. Being at the same height as Lake Sebago, it is waterfilled and depth unknown.
