It's too late, but if I had answered in time I would say go to Marginal way and Perkins Cove during the week, preferably in the morning to avoid crowds.
If your looking for other places in the area, I know Macworth Island in Portland is beautiful and easily accessible. (I mapped some photos of it)
I'm also partial to the Bath-Brunswick Area, The Damariscotta/Boothbay/Pemaquid Area and the Rockland/Camden Area. Bar Harbor is nice but overrated IMHO.
