This lovely Southern Railway Depot was built in 1906 and originally stood about 300 yards to the northeast, on the other side of the active rail line. It was moved in the mid-1990's to a several-acre site, where it serves as a visitor's center.

There is a bronze survey disk mounted vertically in the north wall of the station. By comparing the mark's present position with the description written when it was set, we know the building was rotated 180 degrees when placed on its new foundation.

Directions: South on US-21 from downtown Statesville. Just past the RR tracks, the depot will be on your left. Easy parking available. This is well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity.

A large factory produced horse-drawn vehicles which were sold in North Carolina and neighboring states. It operated from the 1850s to the 1920s. At its peak, it turned out 3,000 per year.

Henry Ford once visited the factory to study its "assembly line" operation--a technique Ford later used for producing his automobiles.

Ford's product eventually led to the demise of buggys. The last unit from the Carthage factory was delivered to a woman in Southern Pine, NC.

This is the only surviving building. The other structures were destroyed by a fire.

This factory building has been abandoned for over 25 years. It is located off of Highway US-301, just a little northeast of Dunn's city limit. The property is currently owned by the nearby church.

Crosses Lyle's Creek on the old Island Ford Road. Erected in 1894. Covered with a shingled roof in 1900. (The current tin roof was added in 1921.)

A major restoration was done in 1994 to stabilize the structure, which is on the National Registry of Historic Places. It is constructed of Oak and uses wooden pins instead of nails. The name comes from the nearby Bunker Hill Farm which has existed since the early 1800s.

Located 2 miles east of Oxford Street in the center of Claremont. From a gravel parking lot, follow a mostly level trail (with a small stairway coming up from the creek) for 0.19 mile to the bridge.

Ownership: Catawba County Historical Assocation. Please do not damage or deface this historic structure.
