Carlos Uriarte's conversations
'And the Carthaginians, everything having happened as they wished, did not refrain from indulging in any excess of rejoice by paying thank-offerings to god and congratulating each other. And Xanthippos, who brought about such record and torgue in the affairs of the Carthaginians, after not long sailed away again, acting wisely and prudently brillant and exceptional achievements breed loathsome envy and malicious slander which the natives, owing to their kinsmen and large numbers of friends, can withstand for a long time, while the foreigners very fast by both of them are subdued and are put in danger.' From Polybios' The Histories. Book 1:36(1-4).

This is the Spanish Arch in Galway. It was a gated entrance to the old walled City. To the immediate right of this is the ocean. Spanish trading ships would dock here (other side of the wall ie outside the walled City) and have to enter the City through the Arch to trade goods. Hence the name Spanish Arch.
