I am real familiar with this area; probably my favorite area in the Sierra. This picture was taken probably around the 9,000 ft elevation level and is looking down into what is known as Snow Canyon. Behind the camera would be Deadwood Peak (summit somewhere near 10,000 ft). I'm told that there are petrified trees - hence I suppose the name of Deadwood Peak - but when I was last in there in the spring of 2008 I "glassed" the mountainside and just couldn't make out the trees. Probably just don't know what I'm looking for.

You will have to show me how to take a picture and get the waves to show up so clearly! Great photo!

I'd love to visit here, isn't it amazing how things are built right into the cliff walls?

It amazes me that a bird of that size wouldn't be terrified of the city he is perched above. They really do adapt. It's a great picture.

When I first saw the picture, I thought it was Peru. While not too surprising, it is interesting how landscapes repeat themselves throughout the globe.

Fascinating how you panarmasized the shot. You make me want to see the new Academy of Sciences.

How beautiful this oak covered hillside is.

I loved how you captured the fall light over Briones and the golden hills.

Beautiful winter scene. I love how it is difficult to distinguish the rocky crags from the trees.

Beautiful sunset. There is no place like home "the bay" for sunsets like these.
