You people should treasure this image, Stansue. Unfortunetly, the building has been badly damaged in the 22 Feb 2011, M5.3 aftershock.
Lots of people lost their lives around our city, and there has been much damage to the central busienss district, as well as Lyttelton getting serious building damage and personal injuries galore.
Many houses have been badly damaged around the eastern parts of the city, and many homes will have to be rebuilt - if the ground is still suitable.
While the city survived a M7.1 earthquake on 4 Sept 2010, with nill loss of life, we did get king hit in Feb this year.
Aftershocks continue almost everyday. Too many of them!
Not good news, you will agree, but the people of the City have a good backbone. We will rebuild, even if it takes a decade or two!!
Stansue, you will not be happy to hear that there was an aftershock, directly below the cableway earlier on this morning. At 12.35am, a M3.1, 4km deep.
Another blooming shake, even if it was only a low 3, it sure adds to the shaking that our part of the country is having at the moment.
