Maurice: If you are Facebook, there is a FB group you may enjoy called Chanute AFB Cold Warriors. There are plenty of photos that go back to the early 50s. It has close to 3000 members. A lot of conversations about the old base. The other FB group I mentioned above, Chanute Alumni Association, no longer exists.

I was there serving as the Adjutant, USASTRACOM (GP), Okinawa (Army). I would take my youngest daugther to the grass abutting the runways and await and watch the Habu (SR71 Blackbird) runup and take off whenever I was lucky enough timewise.
