Wildman51......Try this web site .....(without the spaces) third reich runins . com. If you like period history from this area, you will enjoy the mountain of material, including then and now photos, they have. Find the section on Obersalzberg.

I was an Air Traffic Controller in that facility in 1968 and part of 1969. What memories this photo brings back. KG

This is also the site of Hanalei Plantation. My wife and I stayed here in 1970 when I was on R&R from Vietnam. It was the most beautiful place we've ever stayed. Sad that it is gone now. In those days St Regis and Princeville didn"t exist and Hanalei Plantation was about the only resort on that part of the island. Access to the resort was through a break in a barbed wire fence marked by a hand painted sign nailed to a fence post near the present day Hanalei Valley look out. The "driveway" consisted of two wheel ruts through a grassy field down to a copse of trees where the manor house was situated. It was immaculately landscaped and the check-in, dinning room and pool were located there. The House of Happy Talk was adjacent . A narrow drive ran down the spine of the ridge below the manor house almost to the beach. Small but luxuriously appointed bungalows lined each side of this drive. Each unit was offset from the others so that you had an unobstructed view of either the sea or in our case, Hanalei Bay. The R&R discounted rate for this little piece of paradise was $16.00 per night. Yes, that's right, sixteen bucks for what I consider to be five star accomodations. How times have changed.

Google with their account merging madness has made it impossible for me to access this account. Most of my pictures are here but you cannot contact me here nor will comments made on this account reach me. I had to create a new account. You can see a few more recent pictures and contact me Here

Maurice: If you are Facebook, there is a FB group you may enjoy called Chanute AFB Cold Warriors. There are plenty of photos that go back to the early 50s. It has close to 3000 members. A lot of conversations about the old base. The other FB group I mentioned above, Chanute Alumni Association, no longer exists.

Great Picture Greg. You have several pictures that would compliment the Group "The Keys of Florida." I hope you consider adding them to the group.

Very interesting area. Thanks Greg.

I was there serving as the Adjutant, USASTRACOM (GP), Okinawa (Army). I would take my youngest daugther to the grass abutting the runways and await and watch the Habu (SR71 Blackbird) runup and take off whenever I was lucky enough timewise.

I like it. Thanks Greg.
