Thank you for your comments. It was my first occassion travelling on this road. If I knew precisely where your grandfather was living, I could try to get some photos on the next occassion I am in the Killareny area.
The Southeastern corner of the wood lies at the bottom of a steep hill and just beyond the trees at the edge of the woods, a stream runs alongside the woods' edge marking the border between the woods and the neighbouring farmland.

View from the restaurant at Hohe Salve, Soll, Austria, Christmas 2008. The summit is above the cloud cover amd is bathed in sunshine whilst the mountain below is cloud covered with snow falling.
View towards Hintertux on Oct 11, 2009. Sommerberg Cable station and resaurant is visible in the top left corner. The following day, Oct 12th, the slopes were covered in snow.

Group heading downhill during storm in Hitertux. Temp - 7 with gusts of wind. Shortly afterwaeds the upper slopes were closed due to weather.
