Ah, the Rogue or Freak wave rears its head again. I remember when that altimeter satellite data began showing the things were not "sea stories" or great rarities or things that were limited to a couple of areas off South Africa.

As with the big hotels on their side cruise ships today I have some not good feelings for things like containers and LASH "barges" stacked on decks in an encounter with such things. They have done serious damage to integral hull and housing so I cannot help wondering about the effect on stacked containers and sending them into motion. I lived two weeks with a 55 gallon drum rolling on deck above because it was just not worth the risk of injury trying to catch the damned thing and secure it with it and the seas sloshing about. Containers flying about? No thanks!

Yes, I have seen those with even heavier lifts. There was one going around in those "fwd, fwd, fwd" emails some time ago. Then there was the news when MV Blue Marlin semi-submersible heavy-lift ship carried the USS COLE. Amazing things.

The "elevator" amidships can be fun, up there--and way back astern as your bulk and container ships--is quite a distance in heavy pitching. Somehow the effect would seem greater in my opinion without a long view of the ship in front!

Hi Cinza, see here the reason why heavy lift ships do have their accomodation forward:

ANNEGRET

otherwise visibility for the officers on the bridge would be seriously impaired when havening project cargo on deck.
