This attribution is 150 years too early. These ruins date from the days of the 1930's/40's/50's when the Plantation Dauphin produced sisal for use in everything from carpets to defense uses (preceding teflon tape). Sisal use was superseded by threads and filaments produced artificially.

This was Citadel Manufacturing Co., a sisal bailer twine factory that was in operation from about 1959 to 1966.
