Hamton Boats. The length of a narrowboat is governed by the locks that it had to use and was generally limited to 70 feet.57 feet in some area's. Boats that only went from Walsall Wood pit The Wharf and Cannock to Wolverhampton did not go through any locks and were therefore not restricted to 70 feet. These boats were called Hampton Boats and were I believe 96 feet Long.

For the benefit of younger people or those who don't know Wooden boats were purposely sunk so that the timber swelled and sealed any leaks between the timber.
