Excellent photo! L+F

Greetings, Florian

As the USNS Upshur, She aloso carried my father, Cdr. Conrad Donahue USN, my mother, and me and my five brothers and one sister from Barcelona, Spain (I think) to New York in 1961. We had lived for two years in Kenitra, Morocco where my dad's duty station was NAS Por Lyautey. Our cabin was one of the nicer ones, on the starboard side on the deck right under the bridge. I was just five years old, but still remember so much about the trip. It transported a lot of whole families of the officers and enlisted men across the Atlantic in those days before flying to Europe became common, so there wer a lot of amenities - including a kiddie playroom and aduly-supervised kids club called the "Upshur Club".

II can still taste the excellent French Toast served for breakfast every morning.

My name is Wayne I was on The Happy Happy Hess as the Reffer man when She went up in smoke I helped fight the fire from start to end , I worked with a fellow named Gilbert Millsaps which passed in Tq Washington a few years back, I was the refer man on the ship, We left port on one boiler, also I took some very good pic,s of the boiler melt down and gave them to someone Hope they still have them if so maby they could post them, I enjoyed working on the old C4 I grew up on those Ships,It run when shipping was fun but those days are over, now they are all just UPS Trucks. I am glad someone has this site up about the Happy Happy Hess.
