These houses are amidst betel-nut trees. Hindus use its fruit in many religious ceremonies. Chewing betel is common in north-eastern India, northern India and in the plains of Nepal. These wooden houses were constructed when sal wood was easily available. Now the wood is very very costly and beyond reach of these local people and they build brick houses.

I had it on Plage Bonaparte in the first place, but following the comment from Jan thought I had got it wrong again. I have moved it back now!
