Hi Bruce, This whole issue has been a major disappointment for me; probably my own fault for spending too much time enjoying every aspect of what made Panoramio so appealing to people like us.
A couple of years ago I opened a limited G+ account. I also decided to use Gphotos as a storage backup and there, they remained, in storage I presumed. I have since discovered that many are visible on GMaps and GE. I must have inadvertently given them permission to display them at that time. I can't help but feel a major resentment toward Google for their lack of respect and disregard of Panoramio's contributions to their viewers, and of course, their deep pockets. I certainly don't mind sharing my photos with the world, but I believe Google has lost all interest in retaining quality photographs. The only positive point I can see in leaving photos here is them being viewable in GE.
It seems that a lot of the serious and/or professional photographers have already joined Ipernity and consider it to be the best alternative; several others have joined 500px. I will most likely check out these two options in hopes of staying in touch with some mighty fine people that I've had the privilege to get to know here on Panoramio.
Couldn't you drop him an e mail and ask?
I can't remember. I THINK so but you can check it by starting the process and see if it gives you the black dots or not! I hope that makes sense!
Hi Nick. The deer here are also considered a nuisance as they eat everything. Deer repellent is readily available and seems to work. I think its essence of wolf crap or similar. I'm being lead to believe impernity is the way forward, but it seems to miss the mark in many areas to me. As you say, all good things come to an end so new horizons present themselves as and when. I'd like to carry on in some format or other, as the opportunities here are obvious, but I only want to do it in a properly constructed fashion. Hopefully, we will cross paths again and have some light hearted fun once more. See you in the nursing home perhaps.
As 4 November approaches let us all continue to be friends and contributors to Google Maps/Google Earth from wherever the landlords of Panoramio send us. As Nick has said, "It has been a good ride." But, it is not the end. We will continue. Best wishes to all my friends. -Art (artnscience)
