I also stayed on Dal lake houseboats - those belonging to the splendid Gulam Butt. We stayed (in 85)in the same boat that George Harrison had stayed some time before with one or two other Beatles. Yes, staggeringly beautiful. Unbelievably sad in terms of the political situation.
