Hi Belote,I read this post then went to Sai Kung on Sunday (March 24th). I took a picture at the intersection point of Clear Water Bay Road and Pik Uk Tsuen then compare it with your picture. I think you probably took this picture somewhere between the link below: http://goo.gl/maps/asc4I Unfortunately, because of misty mountain and rainy sky, my picture was not so clear.

According to friends who know the area this sea stack no longer exists--it has long since been beaten down by the waves.

Saw her the day after she fell back in October of 1989. I think it was October 13th after a big gale storm in that day.

Over the winter ice forms and is broken up blown toward shore and begins to pile up on shore and over shallow water. I have seen piles more than 8 meters high (above the water level). Waves smash against the ice, sometimes undercutting it. With enough wave action the water may cut a hole up through a section of ice several meters in from the edge. Then with more ice blown to this shore some of it enters the ice cave/tunnel and spews out the hole (like lava from a volcano) and forms an ever larger rim of ice around the hole. Pretty spectacular to watch the eruptions during a storm! Maybe someday I'll get some good fotos of that!
