J Belote, My father in law, Dave Owen is the man in the picture that burned the lookout in 1959. He told me the story of how he hired you the next year at Big Prarie. Do you have an email where he can contact you?
P.S. I hiked to Crimson Peak this summer and there is not much left. just the bed springs!

I would fly from MPLS to Bismark , rent a car ( Avis ) and drive to Dickinson to work on computer. I loved seeing the giant Cow while driving. Got to be like seeing an old FRIEND !

Beautiful picture. This portion of the road was magical, one of the most scenic stretches of highway I have ever traveled.

This is such a sad little reminder that by feeding the wild animals we are condemning them to death as they stop their natural foraging or hunting and simply wait for humans to supply their food. In some cases they become vicious and may attack if the food is not readily given. This is something that visitors to SA do not always understand, and that is even more sad.

I want to clarify what nwckeweenaw has stated regarding trespassing. First of all as a rockhound I very much understand and respect private property rights. This is very important. And removing or relocating the photo for mislabeling etc. makes sense. That being said it is not apparant that this is a trespasser. Please understand Michigan law regarding our lakeshores. In 2004 Michigan's supreme court ruled that private property owners owned dry land up to the waters edge. This led the DEQ to offer an assertion that dry land is at the high water mark. Now of course the private land owners state it is the low water mark to prevent people from walking on/across their property lines. This is still in dispute. Personally I hope the courts rule that it's the high water mark as all Michiganders should have a right to access our wonderful beaches. That being said this picture is clearly below the high water mark and so according to the DEQ it is technically public property at this point based on the 2004 supreme court ruling.
